While the main focus of Marketing Coop is marketing services, graphic design is worth singling out. I believe that for every business, even those with few resources, good, clean and professional looking documentation is very important. You may have an amazing business, but if you don’t pay attention to how you present yourself then you will sell yourself short.
At the Coop we have a combined experience of decades producing business documentation for a wide variety of sectors. Over the years, the biggest failing we have witnessed is poor bespoke documents. It seems people think if they have a nice looking brochure then it’s OK to push out any old rubbish in proposals, expressions of interest and bids, etc. This is as true at enterprise level as it is in small business.
Why does this happen? Design agencies are expensive, so companies try to only give them the glossy brochure and display work. Then it’s assumed that the day-to-day word processing can be done cheaply in-house. But all too often this is a false economy; each and every highly skilled specialist in the business is expected to also be their own secretary and publisher, and this is simply not their skill set. Since computers became a fixture on every desk, highly paid professionals everywhere have had to struggle with document formatting, and by and large do a pretty poor job – when they should be concentrating on doing what they are paid for!
I’m not suggesting you need to sub out every piece of paperwork – but we can look at what you have available and work out a system so that the computer does all the work for you. Your specialists still have to write the content, but they won’t have that constant battle to make it look half decent!
Of course, if there is a really important piece, we are happy to take this on for you and give it the extra sparkle it deserves – and we’ll happily work on those glossies for you too, we’ll even tell you when to use them and when not to.
As our aim is to do what is important – help you win more customers, not design awards – we would like to help you get the day-to-day stuff up to scratch to make sure your sales documents are doing their job, before looking at the glamour work that most designers love.
